
Kohima, November 1 (MExN): Former President, Angami Students’ Union, Zakieseto Zacharias Khate (Zakie Khate) was laid to rest at his native village, Khonoma on November 1. He passed away on October 31 at Bethel Hospital, Kohima following a prolonged illness.
Zakie Khate had served as Vice President, Naga Students’ Union Shillong (2005-06), Assistant General Secretary, Angami Students’ Union (2007-09), President, Angami Students’ Union (2013-15), Joint Secretary, Angami Youth Organisation (2016-19), Joint Secretary cum Secretary Khriekesa Pelikro (2020-till date), Joint Secretary, Merhüma Youth Organisation (2022-till date).
AYO: The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) in a condolence said, till this day, Zakie Khate was serving as the Joint Secretary-cum-secretary Khriekesa Pelikro Welfare of AYO.
“In his demise, the Angamis and the Nagas have lost a tall, dynamic and an exemplary youth leader who rendered his best for the society during his life on earth,” AYO stated.
Despite his short journey, this refined gentleman from Khonoma village, who can be counted one among the thousands, will fondly be remembered for many years to come, AYO stated adding “His manifold contributions to our society speaks volume of his stature as a leader, particularly to the youth and the student community.”
As a leader, he was bold, upright and a straight forward character who never push himself to be a back bencher, AYO stated adding that Zakie Khate was a large hearted person, extraordinary and a unique personality among his peers. The void created would be difficult to fill as Zakie's intellectual prowess and critics stands unmatched, it stated.
Over the years, Zakie Khate had served the society in various capacities. As for the AYO, he served the organisation for two consecutive tenures. He served as the Press Secretary from 2016-2019 and as the Joint Secretary-cum- Khriekesa Pelikro Welfare secretary from 2020 till date.
His brief stint as an official of the apex youth body of the Angami tribe has been a driving force till this day.
“To the organisation, he was known for his dynamism and strong views. We will continue to cherish his life through the positive contributions he had delivered as a leader,” AYO stated and shared its grief and sorrow with the family and near and dear ones of the departed soul.
ASU: The Angami Students' Union (ASU) expressed deep sadness over the sudden demise of Zakie Khate who has served the office of the ASU in various capacities and also as ASU president during the tenure 2013 - 2015.
ASU deeply mourned “the loss of our leader who has continuously rendered invaluable and immeasurable service towards the students and the youth of Angami community and the Nagas at large.”
“His exemplary leadership in shouldering the responsibilities thrust upon him will always be cherished. The emptiness created by his absence In the midst of our Angami students' fraternity will be felt forever,” ASU stated in a condolence message
CMO: In a condolence message to family members of Zakie Khate, Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Nagaland: Kohima stated “We convey our most sincere condolence and deepest sympathies to your family members. He is known to us as a stalwart while leading the Angami Students Union and also known as an active and inspiring leader of Angami Youth Organisation.”
In his untimely demise, we have lost a future leader who could have taken us to a better and brighter future, stated KD Vizo, Principal Secretary to Government of Nagaland.
CYF: In condolence message, the Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) stated “in his demise, the Naga youths have lost a patriotic brother who has much to offer to the Naga people in leading the young minds to pride in our Naga identity and to protect it. “
The CYF sincerely extended its heartfelt condolences to Angami Youth Organisation for the lost of a vibrant youth leader and conveyed deepest sympathies to the bereaved family members.
MSU: “He was a humble and a compassionate student leader who lived an exemplary life and made his mark indelibly as someone who connects with the student leader’s fraternity beyond borders and irrespective of tribes. His demise is therefore a monumental loss not only to the Angami Students’ Union, but to the entire Naga students’ fraternity,” stated Mao Students’ Union (MSU) in a condolence message.
His memory and legacy will forever be cherished and remain evergreen, stated MSU and prayed that “God in his infinite mercy will grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, while comforting the pain of those he left behind.”
While Lt. Zakie Khate will remain in the hearts of the people that he touched, may his memory continue to inspire and guide all of us to continue our journey, the union added.
