DIMAPUR, APRIL 1 (MExN): The Ex-Parliamentarian Association Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has appealed to Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Y Patton to reconsider the decision to remove police personnel attached as bodyguards and on non police duties with ex parliamentarians.
It may be noted that the Deputy CM had ordered for removal of over 3000 police personnel attached as bodyguards and on non-police duties with various personalities including ex-parliamentarians.
While lauding the effort of the Deputy Chief Minister to reform and modernize the state’s police forces, the Ex-PAN appealed for exemption from this due to the “sensitive nature of duties and responsibilities of an ex-Parliamentarian.”
“The ex-parliamentarians had touched and handled sensitive issues while fulfilling constitutional obligation as an elected representative, thereby making our lives vulnerable to anti-social elements even after retirement,” it said.
As an elected representative of the people, it said that ex-parliamentarians had not only contributed to the society during their term as MLA/MP but also continue to play active role in the society in the form of opinion, advice and even physical participation due to experiences gained from the past and as senior citizens.
“Moreover, all present parliamentarians are dutifully bound to become ex-parliamentarian, hence, to demean ex-parliamentarian of their status is to demean oneself in future,” it added. The Ex-PAN appealed to the Deputy CM for exemption from removal of bodyguards.
