Four from Nagaland received the Governor’s Award for Distinction in the field of Arts and Music during a programme organized at the Raj Bhavan on the occasion of 77th Independence Day ‘At Home’ programme at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall on August 15.

The recipients are Kevisedenuo Margaret Zinyü in the field of Arts, K Lolo (Arts- Pottery), Among Jamir (Music) and K3M Band in the category of music. 

Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan urged upon all the citizens to maintain the hard earned peace towards a brighter future which was a pre-requisite for a progressive and prosperous state. 

This was also the reason why over the couple of years, the state’s economy had grown at a good rate which at the same time showcase the rich culture and promote the state to the world. With the state’s medical college in Kohima to be inaugurated soon and centre's already sanctioned funds for the construction of the Mon Medical College, Governor stated that it would give a big boost to the health sector. 

“This will give a big boost to the health sector by ensuring availability of adequate health care professionals. We are proud that our state already has four universities,” he commented. 

He said the foundation stone for the re-development of Dimapur Railway Station laid by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, would be developed into a world class station and boost tourism and infrastructural development in the state.

Governor congratulated the awardees for their contributions. He said it has made the state richer and reminded that the award was a testament to of their talents and hard works.

Ganesan also remarked that the day was a remembrance of the freedom fighters, their struggles and sacrifices for the great nation. 

“Let us also remember and pay homage and respect to all our heroes and great personalities from all walks of life and professions whose contribution have made us all proud and have taken our country towards the path of greatness and prosperity,” he said.  Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio while addressing the gathering recalled the past when Nagas were found to be unique in our customs and traditions by the Britishers. 

He said that the state had come a long way in the process of evolution and particularly in the field of arts, music and literature were showing progress.

He expressed hope in the youth to contribute towards glorifying the state and to the Nation building process.

Rio said that Hornbill festival had gained recognition nationally and globally by displaying out rich and diverse culture and traditions, and added that our service delivery to cater to the increase in the footfall of tourists coming to visit the ten day event was imperative. 

The Chief Minister congratulated the recipients of the Governor's Award and urged them to continue with their good work and move forward in the society. He also expressed his appreciation to arts and culture and the people involved in promoting the rich culture of the state.

Chief Secretary and Chairman of State Selection Committee, IAS, J Alam also spoke during the programme. Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, Ministers, Advisors and MLAs, senior officers from Military, Para-Military, Police and Civil and invitees also attended the award ceremony.
