R Lester Makang Ukhrul | September 3 Perhaps, too much rain and thunderstorms this year had been playing spoilsport to the mood of entertainment here for months on end. And now finally came the first ever get together of Tangkhul singers that had the hitherto sleepy Ukhrul township in the grip of musical frenzy on Saturday, heralding the music season of the year here. Enthusiastic music aficionados in the town were treated to a free musical extravaganza which featured a legion of established local singers and budding talents. The free musical extravaganza came as an added bonus of first Tangkhul singers' get-together organized by the Tangkhul Music Forum (TMF-Ensouling the tune) in collaboration with ASA Sound, Rilo Enterprises and Kumrah Printers at the Multipurpose Hall, Mini Secretariat. Held under the theme 'Amalgamation', the event attracted a huge crowd of music aficionados drawn from different walks of life. Commencing the proceedings of the musical night, well-known Tangkhul singers Guru Rewben Mashangva and Thangmeiso Shanglai delivered their popular numbers amid the cheering crowd. Other popular singers Kingsword, Ashang Khapai, Wungramphy, Somatai, Zan, Nimchuiwor & Amung, Tonreimung, Thotchui, Thotreiso and others took to the stage in turn and rendered their popular numbers. At the finale of the extravagant musical night, renowned singers Oshim SW and Nimshimphy set the mood for the evening with the foot tapping melody titled 'Ngathorwui Zingran' which literally had the whole audience rising to their feet and swinging their hands to the tune. Speaking at the occasion, TMF president Nobert Khayi acknowledged the public support to the musical extravaganza, adding that the event is aimed at promoting the local music industry, by bringing together all Tangkhul singers under the forum, which was recently floated for the purpose. Former chairman ADC Ukhrul Dr. Yaronsho Ngalung lauded the initiative of the forum as a common platform for all local singers and urged the public to extend support and cooperation to the forum as well as local singers. "This way, we can collectively help develop local music industry in the district, where industries are scarce," he said and went on to add that development of industries is the need of the time.
