DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 7 (MExN): A three day COVID-19 sensitisation training for NGOs, NCOs, Home Guards, State Disaster Response Force and Civil Defence personnel started at the District Commandant Home Guards office Wokha on February 6.

Delivering the keynote address, Vikiho K Sema, District Commandant, HG, CD and SDRF Wokha stated that sensitizing the frontline workers on COVID-19 will allow them to understand the importance of taking the vaccine as we continue to fight against the virus.

The resource persons were Dr Mhonchan Kithan, Zonal Leprosy Officer Wokha and Dr Khesheli Awomi, Epidemiologist. Dr Kithan gave a brief introduction on the origin of the Coronavirus and the new deadly variant of the virus from the UK and South Africa.

He urged the frontline workers not to be hesitant as the COVID-19 vaccine Covishield, currently used in the State, is made using a tried and tested technology. He also lauded the efforts of the Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF personnel in carrying out their duties during the pandemic.

Dr Awomi took sessions on the standard operating procedure for COVID-19 and the tests done for suspected cases in the district. She reminded the frontline workers not to be complacent and continue to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

The resource persons also answered various queries raised by the frontline workers on vaccination. The ongoing three day training is a collaboration between the District Commandant Home Guards Office and the Medical Department to create awareness as the vaccination drive for frontline workers starts next week in the district.

In Mon, the vaccination awareness programme was held for healthcare workers and frontline workers.

Vaccinated health care workers talked about their health after receiving the shots. Private clinic workers, police headquarters, administration, health care centres including ASHAs and AWWs were sensitized in and around the district.

During every drive, the message portrayed was to understand the vaccine first, its AEFI (Adverse Effect Following Immunization), myths and misconception. The strategy seeks to build trust and enable greater confidence in the Covid-19 vaccine amongst people by employing transparency in communication while also managing any misinformation and rumours around it.

The second phase of the vaccination drive for frontline workers will be starting from February 8.

The resource persons in Mon were the Deputy Commissioner, DIO (UIP&RCH), Medical Officers of the blocks, vaccinated health workers, BPMs and media officer.
