Gov appeals to improve understanding of PWDs issues

Kohima, December 5 (MExN): In view of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3), Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya appealed to all the NGOs, students bodies, various village bodies, churches, and all the stakeholders to come together and spread awareness through posters, billboards, art exhibitions, etc. to improve the understandings of issues faced by the Persons with Disabilities and to support them to improve their self-esteem, well-being and rights in the society.  

The Governor and his wife also extended heartfelt gratitude to all those who are working tirelessly for the welfare of the less fortunate and in need of special attention, stated a press release from PRO, Raj Bhavan, Kohima. “They are the mentor who went that extra mile in not only teaching and taking care of them, but for having that sincere desire to help, motivate and instil in them the desire to strive and to lead a better life,” the release added.  

It further reminded that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed all across the world to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of Persons with Disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness about the Persons with Disabilities as well as to encourage them by implementing a lot of assistance in their real life to enhance their way of life and remove the social stigma towards them.  

International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated 

Cherry Blossoms Society in collaboration with Rotary Club, Kohima celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 at Kohima Village Council Hall along with Persons with Disabilities from Kohima Village, Chedema and Chedema Model Village.  

More than 200 people gathered for the celebration, where Pheluopfhelie Kesiezie was the chief guest and Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü was the guest of honour, informed a press release.  

Students of Cherry Blossoms School performed National Anthem in Sign Language, while number of performances in the form of dances, duet, and chorography were also presented.  

Kedizelhou Rutsa, Senior Graduate Teacher of Sechü Zubza spoke of his experiences of fighting all odds even to this date.  

Meanwhile, the Rotarians of Kohima gave away woollen fleece as gifts to all the Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens who attended the programme.  

The programme ended well with a note that Persons with Disabilities should be given equal platform in all walks of life, according to the press release.
