When it comes to governance, we have Cabinet Ministers and Advisors entrusted with the responsibility of leading the State and serving the people. Their roles are primarily political and administrative, requiring them to formulate policies, implement development programmes, and address public concerns. However, in a society where faith and moral values hold significant importance, it would be truly commendable if leaders also act as spiritual ministers and advisors through their conduct, leadership, and service.
A true leader should not only guide people politically but also inspire society through honesty, justice, peace, and servant leadership. Spiritual leadership, in this context, does not necessarily mean preaching religion in public offices; rather emphasizespracticing ethical governance, caring for the welfare of the people, uphold honesty, integrity, humility, compassion, justice, unity, accountability, and setting example through characters and actions.
Leadership is not only about power and decision-making; it is also about wisdom, integrity, humility, compassion, and fear of God. Nagaland, being a Christian-majority State, where faith plays a vital role in society, peoplenaturally expects their leaders to reflect Godly principles in their actions and decision-making. When leaders govern with sincerity, fairness, and a genuine concern for the welfare of the people, they become examples of servant leadership. Their characters and actions can positively influence society and encourage unity, peace, and ethical living.
Leadership becomes more meaningful when it goes beyond politics and administration to include moral responsibility and ethical conduct. A leader who serves with wisdom, humility, and Godly principles can become not only a political leader but also a spiritual example for society.
This reflection is not intended to denounce, criticize or undermine any politician or public leader. In fact, many are rendering commendable services for the welfare and development of our society through various initiatives and public service efforts. Their dedication and leadership deserve appreciation and respect.
May God continue to bless Nagaland. This is my earnest prayer.
