In Nagaland the top 5% of households earn an average of Rs 71,028 per month, while the bottom 50% only Rs 1,639 per month. Is this income disparity the main reason for excessive inequality? Give Reasons

Yes:
•    Because many young people are dependence towards parents and lazy

•    Because many youths are lazy and only looking for white-collar jobs. Most of the labourers are earning on average 700 per day so in a month it comes to 21000 (basically between 15k-18k). On average we have around 1000 labours working everyday so if we calculate 700x 1000=700,000 (7 lakhs per day of our Naga money is earn by non local labours). Why can’t our so called unemployed youth earn this money?

•    Corrupt State, Church and Underground as well as nepotism with privileged entitled family members have wreaked this chasm through Naga society. Unless and until it is dismantled from top to bottom. CM to DBs and GBs it is a free for all and 75% remain disenfranchised.

•    It is mainly due to dependence on government service for income. Moreover, the majority of the people who are not engaged in government service depend on low wage work, or on agriculture which is substantive in nature.

•    Only government job, hornbill festival and music cannot help, we need industry and big time private players to help the per capita income of every citizen. It is high time we come out of our boasting about our tribe is the best and forget about the real economy. People will respect us only when our GDP is strong and competitive. Pray our state economy will hit atleast $10 billion with everyone contributing. Yes we can.

•    The rich families get more opportunities and the lower class is facing hard life to start their foundation.

•    Yes, this is the core reason why there is so much of income disparity. The gap between rich and poor is only getting wider and this will create a volatile situation that will create more instability in Naga society.

No:
•    Most un-factual statement I have ever read.

Others:
•    The numbers show a serious wealth gap if accurate, the top 5% earning over 40 times more than the poorer half is alarming. But inequality is not caused by income alone; education, opportunity, governance, and access to resources also play a huge role.

•    Keep blaming corruptions. It is easier and convenient

•    Extremely sad to learn this. Please open our economy. Create investor confidence. You will see funds flowing in. Jobs will be created and there will be prosperity. Government jobs is not the only solution. It will not happen overnight, neither Rome was built in a day.

•    First Point: These days, I have noticed that the government in the Northeast is placing a lot of focus on entrepreneurship. However, what we actually need before that is skill development that leads to self-sufficiency. Not everyone is good in studies, so our government and educational institutions should introduce new forms of learning, such as vocational training or professional courses. Second Point: I also suggest that our town committees should not simply give trade licenses to non-locals. The reason is that in business, we are strategically lacking knowledge compared to them. They already have more wealth than our youth. Not only do they take our money, but they also control local market policies and increase the non-local population.

•    Get skilled, earn money by any means possible. No excuse for anyone, money rules.

•    I don't know how they come out with such calculation, whether the survey is reliable or not, but at the end of the day it is on us to access on our own income. A decent income, a huge income, a meagre income all depend on the skill and sectors we are involved, we simply cannot rely on government job to equalizes with the disparity and income gap, there are many avenues and prospect in our state, for instance a non local come empty hand in our land and went home rich , we simply never grab the opportunity. Heavy corruption from top to bottom.

•    I believe that such a huge margin in income is the primary reason for excessive inequality in our society. Therefore, the main question should be - what is causing this huge income gap? There may be various reasons, but one of the main causes is unemployment in our state. So, we need to further understand why there is a severe unemployment crisis. It would be very good if we could come up with a solution to this crisis. We cannot continue depending only on public sector jobs or going out of the state in search of opportunities. We must find ways to generate more employment avenues within our own state.

•    In my opinion, Nagaland faces a stark economic gap that underscores the need for more inclusive growth. Bridging this divide requires addressing the uneven distribution of public resources and prioritizing the developmental needs of long-neglected places, while simultaneously building a private industry that creates pathways for all citizens to thrive.

•    Income inequality is driven by structural factors bureaucracy, inequality distribution of welfare schemes, inappropriate data, political corruption and patronage systems, which result in imbalance development. Main reason political corruption - until this is not reformed no major positive outcome will happen in Nagaland.

•    Naga people consider themselves kings, so why would they do any form of labour that demands them to work hard in the sun? Naga people only want easy fast money earning jobs and when they don't get their delusional demands they will go waste parents money on alcohol and drugs instead.

•    Nagaland has a huge swathe of what I call pseudo-middle class. Ownership of land skews the perception of class because most land has been passed down. You could be making a negligible income but because cost of housing or shelter is a non-issue due to land ownership mere survival is possible. If we go by disposable income and not even income per-se the middle class shrinks drastically. A huge cause for concern is that in the event of emergencies land gets sold and in no time at all the perceived middle class finds themselves struggling to get by. A truly urgent state of affairs.

•    Nagaland is turned into a salary industry by the state government. High salary given to government employees raiding the public development funds to pay salaries of non performing excessive government employees. A random example is that even a horti department grade-4 staff are paid handsome salaries even though they don't produce even a basket of fruit, same thing goes with every government department that are established for the upliftment of the rural farmers but this department instead used up all their development funds to pay high salaries of those that just sits in the office. Nagaland can only see real development when the present trend of salary industry is converted into a producing industry by financing genuine entrepreneurial youths and farmers.

•    The main problem in Nagaland is, children are brought up way too high standards than the parents real capacity. That is the main reason Naga society is at a downfall. Children are spoon fed in everything plus the school also doesn't teach them any real life work exercises , and the private school tuition have reach sky rocket. I feel like the middle class people' should encourage sending their children to government schools and the parents should keep a proper check at the govt teachers. This way it will be financially safer plus the next generation also would learn to live according to their status and work harder.

•    The rich get richer and the poor get poorer are real in Nagaland.

•    We need jobs and development, not free ration. Free things should be education and health care.

•    We take article 371A as a means to protect our land and that is good in one way but the bad side is that, no company can invest in our land, which could possibly bring lots of employment. We must rethink and lease our land for companies, which can benefit our people.

•    Why is a newspaper asking obvious questions? The question should be how can we fix it? What government policies should be at play and how can we ensure it is implemented properly. East police colony has been waterlogged in few areas for a week now. There's no proper drainage even in a colony that's supposedly meant for public servants. So imagine the plight of people who are actually working in the unorganized economy of Nagaland. The road from Niuland up until Vihuku is so bad despite claims of having freshly made with black topping just 5-6 months ago. How can kids go to school if there is no proper roads and transport facilities? While the top 5% sends their kids to top university and colleges, the rest cannot even afford basic primary education. Problem is not free and compulsory education. Problem is that we do not have the mechanism to ensure the kids are actually getting educated and upskilled. Now this policy came about more than a decade ago. NEP 2020 which says a lot about vocational and skill training is not even been implemented properly. So of course the kids, college students and the youth subjected to it are in the workforce today. Hence, they are earning less. Just a simple anecdote and nothing more. But it's so easy to understand who the priority is in every government term.
