Appeals to the people of Nagaland
to contribute liberally to relief fund
Kohima, April 11 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland & Assam PB Acharya has expressed shock and dismay at the tragic incident of a devastating fire that engulfed the Puttingal Devi Temple complex in Kerala. More than 100 persons have lost their lives and nearly 400 people injured in the incident which was caused by fireworks at the temple complex.
According to a press release from PRO to the Governor, the Governor has expressed deep sorrow that such a heart-rending incident should have occurred at a temple where the devotees had gone to offer their prayers in a pious frame of mind and witness an annual religious festival.
The Governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members of those who lost their lives and has prayed to the Almighty for heavenly peace of the departed souls. He has also wished early recovery of those injured.
Acharya has donated Rs. 50,000/- from his salary towards the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help out in the tragedy, the release said. He has appealed to the people of Nagaland in particular and to the people of the North East in general to contribute liberally to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund at this tragic hour. The people of Nagaland can also send their donations to the Governor for onward transmission to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
