
Kohima, August 15 (DIPR): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio graced the Independence Day observance on August 15 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza Kohima as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, the chief minister declared that the government will remain vigilant to check and fight anti-national elements which are threatening to destroy the unity and integrity of the country.
He urged the people to work for common goal of seeking permanent peace and appealed to all the underground groups to maintain peace and bring a halt to the senseless killings, which bring more hatred and division. The chief minister also announced that the LADP allocation has been enhanced to Rs. 1 crore for consistency.
The chief minister also said that the Nagaland Retirement from Public Employment (2nd Amendment) Act 2009 was passed to ensure that the avenues of government employment are shared amongst the people in a more equitable manner. On the issue of women empowerment, Rio said that the government has created the department of Women Development and raised the 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Battalion to provide job opportunities to the youth.
On education, he said 60 GPS were upgraded to middle schools while 470 posts of teachers have been created for primary schools. The chief minister further said that a number of new road projects and water supply facilities have been taken up. He assured to the people that the government would continue to work with full commitment and sincerity in meeting the people’s expectations.
