GPRN/NSCN appeals to lawyers not to represent ‘kidnappers’

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): Pointing out that kidnapping of businessmen for ransom has been crippling Naga society, the GPRN/NSCN has stated that it was its endeavor to clamp down on this anti social activity. In this regard it mentioned about Mr Jacob, Alias Sevitao, aged 44years and Romeo Poumai,  aged 33 years, both from Senapati, Manipur, who while being interrogated by the GPRN/NSCN had admitted  to their involvement in the kidnapping of Mr. Hariram Gupta, a prominent businessman, near Walford on the evening  of 25th November 2010.  They were handed over to the Indian authorities for further interrogation, stated a press note from the MIP GPRN/NSCN.
The GPRN/NSCN has in this regard made an appeal to the Nagaland Bar Association and Dimapur Bar Association pointing out that these two people “having recovered only a fraction of the ransom amount to the police” were now “preparing a legal team to seek their bail utilising the remaining ransom amount”. The GPRN/NSCN stated that at a time when the business community in Nagaland was being terrorized by kidnappers and anti-social elements, it would “tantamount to approving kidnappers to come out of jail and continue from where they left if these criminals are not punished for their crime”.
“These criminals are a menace to business community in particular and Naga society in general”, stated the press note from the GPRN/NSCN and therefore, appealed to the Nagaland Bar Association and Dimapur Bar Association not to allow any law firm or law practitioners under them “to represent these criminals”.
It also appealed to lawyer(s) who have been approached to represent the two accused to “kindly understand the gravity of the crime vis-a-vis the predicament of business community”. “Beyond this public appeal, any lawyer attempting to seek bail for these two accused shall be considered as aiding and abetting criminals in the Naga society and therefore necessary action shall be initiated”, it stated.
