PUNGLWA, AUGUST 24 (MExN) Host Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) Nagaland emerged as the overall champion on the concluding day of the Group E All India Sainik Schools National Games and Sports 2024. SSP also retained the cultural competition trophy.
The five-day event, which commenced on August 20, saw five Sainik Schools from North-East India—Sainik School Goalpara, Sainik School Imphal, Sainik School Chhingchhip, Sainik School East Siang, and the host SSP—competing in various disciplines.
The sports and cultural events included basketball, volleyball, hockey, athletics, and a cultural competition. Sainik School Chhingchhip clinched both the volleyball and basketball championship trophies, while Sainik School East Siang and Sainik School Imphal emerged victorious in hockey and athletics, respectively.
However, SSP retained the cultural competition trophy and emerged as the overall winner. The Best Discipline Trophy was awarded to Sainik School Goalpara.
The winners will now represent Group E in their respective events at the national level at Sainik School Chandrapur, Maharashtra.
Gracing the closing ceremony, Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, congratulated all the winners and participants, highlighting that sports teach discipline, which is the essence of life. He also reminded the cadets that they were fortunate to be part of Sainik School, which prepares individuals for any eventuality in life. The chief guest gave away the medals and trophies to the winners, informed stated an SSP release.
The SSP Principal Col Arvind Nautiyal also expressed his appreciation for the efforts put in by all staff and cadets for the successful completion of the event, stated an SSP release.
