Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• Expression of oneness of the Naga aspiration is crucial at the current political situation. To this end, the state legislature had in the past officially passed resolutions at least three times for integration of all Naga areas. It is those who lost elections and retired government officials who have amassed wealth and a few unscrupulous public leaders who would be most happy if the Naga talks get derailed. They want to keep the pot boiling stoking disunity. Common people want change with a new lease of life and greater aspirations.
• Yes. Corruption has established as way of life among the elected members. They are amazing wealth and storing it for next election.
• Yes by name and reputation. We Nagas are so so innocent. We look at everything in a very narrow way, but the world looks at it differently. Our politicians are celebrating an oppositionless government thinking that it is the ultimate representation of democractic unity, but the outside world cannot fathom an oppositionless government and thinks it is parliamentary dictatorship.
• Yes. Why blame only the 60 MLAs who are walking extra mile striving for a lasting solution of the ISSUE that has remain unresolved for 70 years? Apart from unresolved political situation, the core issue of Nagaland is APATHY TOWARDS THE DEPRIVED. About 10% of the population are government employees. Another 20% are engaged as private/proxi teachers, church workers and small entrepreneurs. The Nagaland state government seems to exist only for its salaried staff. Unless the problems of the rest 70% are sincerely addressed, corruption and apathy will continue to give birth to disenchantment, extortion and violence in different forms, often using the name of Naga Nationalism as a smokescreen by A,B,C, and XYZ groups which the general public allow willingly or reluctantly to reign over us. This is the reality staring at us.
• There are loopholes and setbacks, but, should we condemn the legislators for being united at this critical Naga political situation? It's now or never, if there is to be a political solution. How long will India hold talks with the Nagas? How many more Prime Ministers? We all know that after A.B Vajpayee, Mr Narendra Modi has been more agreeable and understanding with Naga aspirations. Solving the issue is beneficial for both sides as 10,000 Naga militants and 200,000 Indian paramilitary forces cannot remain bogged down confronting. The loss of life and expenses is simply too much ( hundred times more for India), while the world marches on in the third millennium.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• No, our state has not benefited at all. Actually the reverse can be said because of the oppositionless government the quality of governance has gone from bad to worse and with no opposition there to hold the government accountable it can led to a miserable situation.
• No. the voice of the people has lost
• No. A state Legislative Assembly session lasting for less than hour not once but twice after the formation of oppositionless govt. is a clear message that nothing is improving.
• No accountability. Only consensus to do what everyone doe best---loot public funds.
• No no no...the questionnaire itself is wrong...no democracy benefits from opposition less structure (government). Every state issue has to be discussed and debated before it is passed in the legislature. Every bill/Act/Amendment should be assessed thoroughly and properly with facts and figures, and this can happen only if there's opposition in the NLA. After all...opposition exist to check and balance the system.
• Its a big NO..If things doesn't change in the near future, i fear a 2nd phase of Naga Underground myt surface in our society(God forbids such devlopmnt),a cadre of Educated naga youth; this time against its own Government.
• No, the ruling party are doing kushi kushi. I say big No.
• Please No. It is No, No and No. The oppositionless government has made a mockery of democracy in our state. It is like dictatorship.
• Not at all. It is amusing to read that the Chief Minister of Nagaland has been awarded for Environmental Development. But we all know the real truth. Its an embarrassment.
• No, because the system is like a game where there is “chor” but no “police”. In a democratic govt ruling party and opposition should play “chor-police.”
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• The present oppositionless government in Nagaland had one of the best opportunity to bring about many changes in Nagaland. It was a real God given chance for the government to prove themselves. With no opposition they could have introduced so many positive policies, but alas, what a disappointment they have been. Instead the leaders have wasted this opportunity and brought the wrath of the people upon them. What a shame!
• Am Numbed and cold then and now.
• Our Nagaland slowly dying..... Fading away..... We are infected with a cancer virus n it's slowly eating us alive from inside...... Imagine our Christian state in 20 years ...
• Statehood in 1963, one of the few states to get early statehood. I mean then till now, how much development have we seen? How much time does it actually take to develop an area of 16,579sq kms? That too with article 371A we enjoy and the fat grants we get every year for our special status. So our state without an opposition puts us in a more degradative position. What the people need to understand is that, what we have now is a far cry from democracy which our constitution promises us.
• Nagaland is benefitting with Crore Deficit, power cut, potholes, pending salary, multiple taxation, adulterated fuel and much more....
• Every action has its reaction. When there was opposition nothing happened and without it no changes will take place. Its let me turn come and I’ll do my best. This is action and reaction.
