
Tuensang, December 5 (DIPR): Tuensang celebrated the World Soil day 2016 at CKS Hall Tuensang on December 5 under the theme ‘Healthy soil for the healthy life.’ The programme was organized by KVK Tuensang and participated by the Agri and allied departments of Tuensang, KVK staffs, ECS Staffs and farmers of Villages from with Tuensang District. Manazir J. Samoon SDO(C) Tuensang was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr. Keviletsu Khate in the introductory note highlighted on the introduction of Soil Health card to the villages which will be issued after examination of soil health. He advised the farmers to cooperate giving the soil samples collection by the department to study the deficiencies of the soil which can help the department to initiate the soil treatment on its basis.
Thematic Presentation was conducted by Tokiho Achumi SMS Agronomist where he lectured on the importance of the soil in human life which a proper explanation on a slide projector presentation. The explanation was done with the theme ‘Together we can conserve’ where he explained on the conservation of soil and its importance as a main constituent of human existence. The programme manager, ECS Chongshen also supplemented on the works in collaboration with KVK Tuensang and its story of success in the field of agriculture within Tuensang. He advised the farmers to pass the messages of Settled Agriculture Techniques and its importance to conserve the rate of erosion of the soil which will have a positive impact to do away with the Jhum Cultivation.
Dr. Manazir J Samoom SDO (C) in his speech stressed on the importance of soil with reference to India and special focus on soils of Nagaland. He said Nagas are dominantly an agricultural state which needs good quality of soil for sustenance for which the farmers should change the mindset of old techniques of farming to produce more. To change the old techniques of cultivation we need the help of the specialist to study to the soil samples which will help to detect the deficiencies so shall the treatment follows, he added. He encouraged the farmers to take note on the advices given by the subject specialists which will help in production level of the crops.
The chief guest also inaugurated the Soil Health Cards and distributed to the farmers. The programme was chaired by Sarendi Walling while the vote of thanks was given by Yanger Kichu.
