Home Dept further extends JIC’s term

Kohima, September 7 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland has further extended the period of Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) appointed to inquire into January 31, 2017 incident in Dimapur for three more months till October 31, for submission of its report.  According to a DIPR report, the Home Department (Political Branch) has informed that the extension is in continuation similar notifications earlier, which extended the JIC’s term for one year period from July 29, 2018 to July 28, 2019 and another Department's Notification No. CON-6/ULBJIC/1/2017 dated March 28, 2018. “Other Terms of Reference of the Commission would remain the same,” it said, adding that this is the "last extension of period and the Commission has been requested to submit its report within the extended period." Initially, the one-man JIC was formed in February 2017 to ‘make a detailed inquiry and submit report to the government about the violent incidents” in Dimapur on January 31. The JIC was asked to submit the report in 60 days.
