'Hornbill a bird's eye view of Nagaland'

Kohima, December 2 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K. Therie has extended his wishes to all to enjoy the Hornbill festival.

A statement from the NPCC President termed the festival “an extension” of the State Inauguration day observing that the festival “provides a bird's eye view” of all the Tribes of Nagaland.

“It is a colourful display of tangible and intangible culture, customs and traditional and social practices of yesterday and of the electronic civilization of today. Intangible culture was recorded in memory in the past. Today, we can record these with audio visual technology and preserve them as many cannot be vividly described in words,” the NPCC President stated.   Therie posited that those born in the 1940s and 50s are “the most fortunate ones” for having “lived and witnessed village life” and also “experiencing electronic civilization.”

However, the young ones, Therie stated, are “unfortunate” for they “have missed the Village civilization”. Expressing his fear of the younger lot losing their identity before the World, Therie cautioned against being “over enthused” by modern civilization. “Our culture and customs are second to no civilization,” he insisted.

With regard to Hornbill management, Therie opined that the festival is mature enough to be privatised. Government may continue to aid, he added.
