Twenty year Huluyi D. Vadeo today emerged the champion title of 2nd Open Chakhesang Naga Wrestling Championship 2022, held at Pfutsero in Phek district.
Vadeo from Sakraba village under Phek district defeated Kekhriezo Nagi in final by two straight bouts to lift the champion title.
Son of Late Vecuzo D Vadeo, 6 feet tall and weighing 91 kg, Vadeo defeated Rukuve Nyekha in the pre-quarter finals. He downed Atuo Tevo in the quarter finals and booked for final berth after defeating Medosatuo Pauno in the semi finals.
Vadeo received a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh sponsored by Isaac Kronu.
2nd place Kekhriezo Nagi
Kekhriezo Nagi (31), son of late Videtuolie Nagi of Sechu Zubza under Kohima district qualified for finals after overpowering Pfusato Tetseo in the semi finals. Standing 5’ 7 and weighing 88kg, he downed Mudotso Thira in the quarter final. He defeated Neilaseto Zashumo in the pre-quarter.
He pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh sponsored by Vevoyi D. Vadeo.
3rd place Pfusato Tetseo
Pfusato Tetseo (K Bawe) village of Phek district defeated Medosatuo Paunuo to bag the 3rd position.
Tetseo overpowered Kethoulhou Mejura in the quarter final and downed Sasuyi Nyekha in the pre-quarter. He was lost to Kekhriezo Nagi in the semi final. He received a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 sponsored by Er. Mhaseto Nakro.
4th place Medosatuo Pauno
Hailing from Kijiimetouma village Kohima district, Pauno defeated Agi Rhakho in the pre-quarter and booked semi final berth after defeating 1st edition reigning champion Kezhavizo Thevo in the quarter final. He pocked Rs. 50,000 sponsored by Kewe Lasushe.
Losing quarterfinalists Kethoulhou Mejura, Mudotso Thira, Kezhavizo Thevo and Atuo Tevo received Rs. 10,000 each sponsored Lasumi Baptist Church.
60 wrestlers join championship
The Championship was organized by Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) under the aegis of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) and managed by Lasumi Baptist Church. 60 wrestlers including 3 each from Karnataka and Delhi and one from Ao community from Mokokchung district participated in the championship.
Earlier, Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA & Co-Chairman, UDA and Neikhrolo Khalo, Vice President, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) graced the championship as the Special Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. The programme was chaired by CWA General Secretary, Kuzhovesa Soho while CWA president Vekhozo delivered presidential address. CWA Technical Secretary, Kope Kronu administered oath to the wrestlers. Vote of thanks was proposed by Neizulo Therie of Management Committee.
