“I am the youth’s candidate,” asserted 41-year-old Zale Neikha who won the 15 Southern Angami II Assembly Constituency seat garnering 7563 votes in the 13th Nagaland assembly election. He toppled former MLA Kropol Vitsu who could only secure 6792 votes.
A native of Viswema village, Neikha is the youngest candidate to have won under Kohima district. “After so much tussles I have won and I give all thanks to God,” he added.
According to Neikha, “lack of opportunities for the youth and the need to have a stable government” motivated him to run for the elections. Having worked in several local organisations, especially in youth organisations in his village and region for almost two decades, he observed that the current high unemployment rates among the youth have adversely affected the society.
Therefore in winning the elections, his greatest focus will be on the youth of his constituency as well as his region. “My greatest focus will be on a sustainable youth,” he assured.
By this statement he hopes to implement alternative source of livelihood for the youth especially in entrepreneurial avenues and agriculture, guide the electorates in the funds available for them and implement them well.
With a holistic focus in mind, the father of four – three daughters and one son – also wishes to encourage a more progressive competition among the youth through competitive exams and encourage more academicians.
Another focus will be on the promotion of sports in Nagaland, affirmed Neikha, who is former President of Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) and General Secretary of Angami Sports Association (ASA).
Neikha completed his Electrical engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur and later served in the Departments of Power and Urban Development, Government of Nagaland for 19 years before running for elections.
