With an impressive score of 98.40 % in the HSSLC exam results conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education, twenty-year-old Pallavi Kumari Singh, a student of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, tops this year’s list of successful candidates in the Commerce stream.

Fully aware of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, Pallavi started her preparations well in advance.
“As online classes started from June, I was preparing notes from the very beginning with the help of my school teachers. They cleared all my doubts regarding each and every topic,” she said.

And like other students, she had a hard time adjusting with the new education and academic scenario due to the pandemic.

“The COVID-19 pandemic situation was not easy for me. To cope with the new education system through online, I had to buy a smart phone for my studies which was very difficult for me, especially during the pandemic,” the topper said.

Pallavi said in the initial stages of her preparations for the HSSLC exam, she studied four hours daily but after the exam routine was notified, her daily study hours increased to 8 hours.

“Side by side with online learning and home studies, I also took offline tuition to fully prepare for the exam,” she said.
During off-study hours, Pallavi said she helped her mother in cleaning their home and other household chores. She also watched cartoons on TV during her study breaks to help relax her mind.

Pallavi who has two siblings, said her parents really supported and motivated her to study hard and achieve her goals.
She also expressed gratitude to her teachers for their constant support and guidance.

“The teachers of Pranab Vidyapith HSS were really supportive and remained a good guide throughout my entire academic years. They never refused to clear my doubts and were always there for me. Regularly, they conducted tests for the students and they also kept constant contact with our parents to update them on our academic activities and progress,” the Commerce topper said.

On her next step in academic pursuit and choice of career in the near future, Pallavi said she would like to complete her graduation and at the same time prepare for competitive exams. She said she aspires to serve as a government employee after her studies.

When asked about the mantra of her success, she replied, “Calmness and patience.”

“I just like to say never give up and never lose hope. Stay focused on your goals and follow the advice of your parents and teachers,” she said in her message to juniors who would be appearing the next HSSLC exams.
