Tuensang, September 22 (MExN): The Integrated Child Development services (ICDS) Chare Block conducted Poshan Maah sensitization camps for mothers at Chungliyimti (old), Kiding and Chare New town on the theme “Nutrition in the first 1000 days” on September 21 and 22.

A press release received here stated that the sensitization camps were conducted with the view to create awareness in ICDS chare block on the importance of nutrition for children during the first 1000 days of their lives.

Addressing the participants of the sensitization camps at the different venues, Moa Longkumer, CDPO, ICDS Chare stated that parents have an important role in determining their kid’s nutritional health. Emphasizing that the first 1000 days of a child are a time of tremendous potential and vulnerability Longkumer said that poor nutrition in the first 1000 days can cause irreversible damage to a child’s brain, affecting his ability to learn. “The way mothers and children are nutritionally nourished and cared for from the day of conception to a child’s second birthday has a profound effect on a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive, he said. He further added that this is because the first 1000 days are when a child’s brain begins to develop and the foundations for their lifelong health are built.

More than 100 mothers of Kiding, Chungliyimti (old) and Chare new town participated in the sensitization camp, the release said.
