The Immanuel College today celebrated its ‘Annual Literary Day’ at the College Auditorium with several presentations and competitions by the students.

The highlights of the day included a quiz competition where each semester combined themselves in a group of three and competes on general knowledge about India, Nagaland and the world.

It also featured an extempore speech competition as well as a talent presentation which was open to all.

Later, there was a heated debate on a topical topic, “Should 33% reservation for women be adopted in Nagaland?”

While those for the motion argued that Naga society needed reservation as the present societal structure is “pulling down” women and pressure of male dominance is curtailing their voices, those against the motion reiterated that it is not needed in an ‘egalitarian’ like Nagaland. They further opined that men are more ‘capable and active’ in politics. The latter won the debate.

The day also saw the release of the Immanuel College annual magazine title, ‘Stride’ by its principal Th. Sharatchandra Singh where he exhorted the students to adopt of hard work and strong determination as personal goals to be successful in life.

Besides, the programme solely envisaged and conducted by the Students’ Union, featured entertaining performances from various sections of the students.
