Immanuel College organises Faculty Development Programme

DIMAPUR, JULY 10 (MExN): Under the topic, "Professional Ethics and the Changing Role of Teachers in Higher Education in the Context of NEP 2020", IQAC of Immanuel College organised Faculty Development Programme on 9th July, 2024 with Dr. Buno Liegise, Professor and Head of Department of Education Nagaland University as a resource person at the College Conference Hall.

Dr Buno Liegise in her compelling speech underlined that education is a serious business and a nation's fate solely lies in the hands of the teachers who are the agents of it's building. With this reflection, she stressed on the importance of quality education and stated that teachers need to know their stand and constantly grow and align with the changing environment to provide quality education and bring home positive impact . In her speech, she also mentioned that to keep in tune with NEP, 2020,  teachers are expected to be facilitators by creating an environment that will help the students to develop higher thinking order, creative thinking, problem solving skills, critical analysis, etc to ensure students' understanding and appreciation of what they've learnt.

Commenting on professionalism, Dr Buno Liegise pointed out characteristics of competence and commitment in teaching profession to ensure quality education. She reminded the teachers that teaching is a mission, a vocation that involves intellectual activity to provide personal and social services  based on foundational disciplines and an extended period of preparations.

Reiterating on professional ethics, the resource person highlighted some  constructive approaches that involves knowledge competency, effective communication, research work, effective administration and upholding norms and ethical standards of teaching community. She added that teachers' etiquettes are more important than the written norms which goes beyond classroom and thereby, urged the teachers to avoid unethical habits which would questions their moral accountability. The resource person concluded her speech on the power of positive attitude quoting from Zig Ziglar, ' Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude'.

The event was chaired by Khrutalu Dozo, HoD, Dept.of Political Science and Langnyei Imlichuba Phom, Asst. Prof, Dept.of History pronounced the invocation. Welcome address was delivered by the Principal Th. Sharatchandra Singh. The programme was successfully concluded with the words of gratitude proposed by Nengpilhing, IQAC Coordination.
