Immunization in Nagaland below national level

IPPI on Jan 29; MI from Feb 9

Kohima, January 17 (MExN): State Task Force meeting on Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) & Mission Indradhanush (MI) Phase-4 was conducted on January 17 at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima.  

Abhijit Sinha IAS, Home Commissioner & Commissioner & Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland delivered the welcome and keynote address. He pointed out that full immunization in Nagaland is far behind comparing to the national level falling below 60% and therefore, he said, “immunization should be carried out in such a way that no child is missed out and aim full immunization of children.” Sinha also appealed to the church leaders to use the church platform as a means to give awareness to the community as a whole to make the children’s health more secure.  

In his address, Sinha while stating, “Immunization being a very important programme to protect the child from all kinds of diseases,” requested for cooperation from all masses especially, the stakeholders and church leaders to create awareness in order to make the immunization programme a success in Nagaland.  

A press release received here mentioned that Pulse Polio will be held on January 29 while MI will begin from February 9, covering seven days for consecutive months.   Presentations were given by Dr. Subhajit, Dr. Visasieu Kire State Immunization Officer Nagaland, Dr Shiela (WHO-NPSP), Kingson K Shimray SPO (UNDP Nagaland), UNICEF and Marykali Yepthomi Consultant SBCC.  

Officials from State and district, church leaders and officer from school education attended the meeting which concluded successfully with discussions and feedbacks on the various agendas and issues discussed.
