Impacting India with bamboo

Participants of the ‘The India Trail’s Sustainable Development Programme.

Kohima, January 27: ‘The India Trail’ kick-started it’s Sustainable Development Programmes with a three day course on promoting the use of bamboo in design and construction.  This was done in partnership with leading Architectural firm - Zynorique Initiatives from Kohima.

Richard Belho of Zynorique, an authority in the uses of bamboo in architecture and structural design, was the primary resource person. The recently concluded programme in Kohima, Kisama and Dimapur was structured with the intention of showcasing traditional and modern uses of bamboo in Nagaland and to promote the use of bamboo as a sustainable building material.

The course was attended by 11 professionals—architects, entrepreneurs, furniture designers—from Bangalore, Cochin and Delhi as well as from Nagaland. Rohan K. Abraham of ‘The India Trail’ has stated that there will be more such programmes with Zynorique Initiatives focusing on matters ranging from bamboo to permaculture and organic farming.
