IT Dept aims to make Nagaland major software exporter in SE Asia

To generate employment for 1 lakh local youths in IT

Nagaland State Information Technology & Communications Advisor, Mmhonlumo Kikon today announced a vision to make Nagaland an IT hub by setting up world class Business Process Outsourcing & Knowledge Process Outsourcing for the NE region and South East Asia.  

Speaking at the 4th e-Naga Summit in Kohima today, organized by IT &C Nagaland in association with eGovernance Academy of Estonia, Kikon said the vision aims to provide high internet bandwidth to every Village Panchayat; transform Nagaland into a digital society through transparency and accountability; and enable e-Offices in all government departments.  

Another goal is to facilitate a comprehensive IT literacy initiative; generate direct and indirect employment for at least one lakh local youths in IT/e-Governance activities; promote electronic financial transactions using virtual bank branches operating from customer activated terminals, smart phones etc.  

Other areas include cyber security, telemedicine, telemarketing, market supply chain, digitization of records, and use of demographic database for determining age/sex composition, income levels, resource distribution, regional disparities, incidence of diseases, life expectancy etc.  

The new IT vision further aims to impart digital skill training to promote economic growth and make the state a major software exporter in SE Asia.  

While promoting high bandwidth data applications and electronic services to rural areas through Common Service Centres, the vision endeavours to integrate all government departments on a single platform. It further touted systems like e-Cabinet, e-Legal, eEducation, e-Mobile Classroom, e-Hospital, e-Dashboard, Single window e-Business, e-Naga Village etc, to strengthen core infrastructures like State Data Centre, State Wide Area Network, e-District, National Information Infrastructure(NII), Common Service Centres(CSC) etc to strengthen networking infrastructure.  

Other features plugged into the vision included using terrestrial, wireless, aerial OFC and satellite technologies, to enable centralized electronic integrated security systems. It meanwhile also called for a world class e-Govemance Academy in the State to cater to the needs of NE States and SE Asian countries and to encourage research related works in the IT sector.  

“The main aim of the Government of Nagaland is to make the state a major software exporter in South East Asian Region and also to make Nagaland one of the richest states in the country by actively engaging the unemployed youth in meaningful IT and e-Governance related activities,” Kikon.
