Wokha, June 8 (MExN): The launching of the First 1000 Days programme was held at Dr Motsuo Memorial District Hospital conference hall with Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS as the special guest on June 8.
The main idea of launching this event was to take the message across to the communities and villages about the importance of the First 1000 Days which is a wonderful period of opportunity in shaping a child’s future, the DC Wokha informed.
A DIPR report stated that the DC appealed to all the H&FW department officials to work in coordination with the civil society organizations to spread the message at the grassroots level about the key objectives of the programme in order to achieve the target.
Dr Thungchanpeni Patton, DPO (RCH/UIP), while dwelling on the importance of the First 1000 Days, said the foundation for optimum, health growth, cognitive, and neurodevelopment of a child happens during the 1000 days. She also added as parents nurture, protect and help our children grow to their full potential and not merely survive. She also spoke on the critical interventions and the various government schemes available during the First 1000 Days.
During the programme, resources persons Dr Benchumi, Obs & Gynae, Dr Obed Sumi, Samuel DPM, NSRLM-RD, Echungbeni Tsanglao, and Dr Thungchanpeni Patton highlighted the topic like the importance of Antenatal Care and Hospital Delivery, PMVVY schemes, and nutritional support during the first 1000 days, Breastfeeding-the Complete Nutrient and Early Childhood Development, Importance of Vaccination in Children, SBCC through SHG institutions and convergence at Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition days.
The programme was chaired by Dr Aseno Rhetso DPO (NCD), Dr Zuben Kikon delivered the welcome address and vote of thanks was proposed by Mhonbeni Ezung, DPM.

While launching the programme, the MLA thanked the Government for launching the programme especially for the less fortunate mass in the rural areas. He emphasised to all the participants including himself to come out of the comfort zone, take a step ahead inorder to being a change.
“Be a little more compassionate, a little more tolerant perhaps, towards the needy,” he added.
The MLA also requested the medical department, allied departments and other NGOs to use the platform of churches and other possible means to spread the awareness on the importance of child health and Antenatal Care, as life in the villages concerns most on going to the fields and providing two meals a day for the family. “People still believe in hunting a squirrel and feeding a 3 months old baby instead of 6 months exclusive breast feeding,” he cited.
Further, he extended all possible help for the implementation of the programme in the district.
Dr Wungyong Konyak, DPO (RCH/UIP) in a presentation shared on the importance of First 1000 Days; critical interventions in First 1000 Days; status of Antenatal Care Coverage (ANC) in the state; Government Schemes for First 1000 Days. Dr Wungyong also explained the components of Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Days.
Importance of Ante Natal Care and Hospital Delivery were presented by Dr Aman Konyak, Obs & Gynae, DH Mon; Dr Chimang Paul, Paediatrician DH, Mon shared on breastfeeding: the complete nutrition of early childhood development and the importance of vaccination in children.
DPO Social Welfare, Mon T Yanlem explained the PMMVY Scheme and nutritional support during the First 1000 Days with a technical explanation by N Gongnyei Konyak, District Coordinator PMMVY. BPM NSRLM-RD, Mon S Yatao Konyak presented on the Social Behaviour Communication Change through Self Help Group institutions.
Dr Vezokholu Theyo, Chief Medical Officer, Mon shared the issues and challenges and promotional activities of the programme.
A technical sessions was held with the Medical Officers, Nurses, Community Health Officers CHOs, and Programme managers on conducting quality ANC; prevention, identification and management of Pre- Eclapsia and Eclapsia; point of care testing in ANC; HIV-Syphilis and Hep B screening in pregnancy; High risk Pregnancy.
