Kohima, August 4 (MExN): The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has appealed to all members of the business community to keep their shops and business establishments closed and attend the scheduled public rally in Kohima at 11 AM on August 6. The rally, organized by the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) at Old MLA Hostel Junction, Kohima, aims to oppose "Unabated Illegal Taxations, Harassments, Intimidations, and Death Threats to Common People." The KCCI has also pledged its utmost cooperation and support to the AYO’s initiative.
Appalled by ‘death threat’
Meanwhile, the chamber stated that it is 'appalle'd by the recent ‘death threat’ against K Rülho, Proprietor of KKB Rülho and one of its bonafide members, issued by the NSCN (K) (Khango). This decree has angered and distressed the business community, which has long been one of the few groups providing financial support to Naga political groups for their daily activities, the KCCI stated.
However, instead of acknowledging these contributions, the business community has been subjected to numerous harassments, intimidations, physical assaults, and death threats due to the NPG's ongoing demands for taxes, periodical collections, and daily demands, it added.
This current trend of extracting monetary resources from the business community, contractors, suppliers, and public servants would be counterproductive in the long run, it added. According to the KCCI, this would significantly damage the Naga National Movement and the very fabric of society.
Hence, it has requested all NPGs to avoid making arbitrary decisions that endanger individuals or parties and has specifically appealed to the NSCN-K (Khango) to revoke the death threat as soon as possible.
