
Kiphire: The National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week for Kiphire district kick-started today with T. Nchunbemo Odyuo, ADC Seyochung as chief guest at the Executive Engineer PHED office complex with WATSAN committee, ward chairmen and village chairmen.
Addressing the gathering the chief guest said that an informed citizen is an asset to the nation and asked the members gathered to be an agent of change so that the planet we live will be safer, beautiful and pleasant for all to co-exist peacefully. Sharing his concern on rampant use of natural resources Odyuo said, “Amongst all living creature, human is the only creature that break the law of nature and act as an agent of ecological unbalance.” He elaborated more on the issue of clean water and sanitation and said, “We have witness nations waging wars for gold and oil. Now one day, we will witness nations waging wars for water.” He asked the gathering to adopt the slogan ‘each one, teach one’ on the importance of water and its conservation.
Narola, Health & Hygiene consultant, WSSO PHED Kiphire, Chorise IEC consultant, Tetseo chemist WSSO PHED Kiphire spoke on personal hygiene, water and its conservation, quality of water and sanitation. Er Subongyanger EE PHED welcomed the gathering and gave a brief remark on the campaign, Er Akokba SDO PHED proposed vote of thanks.
The department also schedule to organize essay competition, rally and other posture and banner display in order to sensitize the citizens on clean drinking water and sanitation as a part of the campaign. Water testing technique was also demonstrated after the programme.
Further, it was informed that IEC campaign would be held at Sitimi block on February 21 and at Pungro block on February 22. An exposure trip of WATSAN members will be undertaken to Old Phek Village on February 24 and on February 25, a rally and essay competition will be held at Kiphire Town.
