Kiphire: PVSP condemns alleged assault by IR personnel

Kiphire, August 24 (MExN): The Pongren Village Suro Pumji (PVSP) has condemned the alleged physical assault of one Atsoba T Sangtam by personnel of the 14th IR in Kiphire village junction on August 22.

In a condemnation note on Wednesday, the PVSP stated that Sangtam was assaulted to the point of losing consciousness, for parking his truck on the roadside, “which is in violation of the constitutional rights and also various provisions of law.”

The inhuman and irresponsible act by the law abiding force is intolerable, it said, while adding that “the very persons whom we thought are here for our protection are acting like thugs by taking law in to their hands, taking undue advantage of their uniform.”

The PVSP appealed to the law enforcing agencies to leave no stone unturned and ensure that the perpetrators of such a crime are brought to justice without any delay. “Such cruelty cannot be justified in any manner. We urge the responsible authority to expedite the case and deliver justice to the victim and his family,” it added.
