DMC employees defer planned agitation

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Employees Welfare Union has postponed a planned agitation due to the prevailing  model code of conduct related with the ongoing general elections in India.

According to the union, as the monthly salaries of DMC employees have not been released for the last 5 months, causing immense untold suffering, it served an ultimatum on March 7, 2024, before the competent authority for releasing the due salaries within 15 days.

It then cautioned that the union would go for a 'No Pay No Work' agitation.

The proposed agitation was called off by the union in its meeting on March 21 after the Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs assured to look into the matter. The meeting also decided to cooperate with the government until May 15.

However, taking into consideration the ongoing parliamentary elections, the union appealed to the competent authority to resolve the matter soon after the MCC is withdrawn.

In the meantime, it requested the State Government to address the issues by granting additional funds as well as allowing DMC to collect Urban Utility Fee/Entry Fee from all commercial vehicles entering its jurisdiction.

Further, it requested all DMC employees to cooperate with the union for common welfare.
