Kohima, September 16 (MExN): The Chief Executive Officer of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), T Lanusenla Longkumer, has called on citizens to actively participate in the upcoming Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign. The initiative, themed ‘Clean Habits, Clean Values,’ will run from September 14 to October 1 in preparation for Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2.
In a public statement, Longkumer emphasized the campaign’s focus on large-scale citizen involvement through cleanliness drives and clearing garbage spots across the city. The SHS 2024 campaign also aims to honor sanitation workers and reaffirm Kohima's commitment to sustainable waste management.
A major cleanliness drive is scheduled for September 18, starting at 7:00 AM from Old MLA Hostel Junction. Citizens are invited to join the event and organize similar initiatives within their wards, colonies, and offices.
Highlighting the environmental impact of improper waste disposal, especially plastic waste, Longkumer pointed to the pollution of Kohima’s rivers, such as the Doyang and Sanuorü. She urged residents to adopt eco-friendly practices, including waste segregation and the 3Rs—Reuse, Reduce, Recycle—to build a cleaner and more sustainable Kohima.
