‘Knowledge of child psychology vital for teachers’

Phek, February 17 (MExN): An orientation programme was held for the teaching staff of Bishop Abraham Memorial School, Phek on February 12 and 13 at the school campus with Rev. Fr. Sabu SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College of Teacher Education, Dimapur and Dr. Gomesh, Principal of Sazolie B.ed College, Jotsoma as resource persons.  

Fr. Sabu talked about the necessity of teacher empowerment and how a teacher should be mentally, psychological and physically trained to meet the growing needs of the students. He illustrated the qualities of a good teacher. He stressed on the need of knowing communication skills which plays a vital role in delivering the lessons to the students. He said that it is paramount important of every teacher to have knowledge of child psychology in order to know how the students feel and think at their age and to sympathise and lead them to right path. He also suggested some tips on class room discipline and management.

Dr. Gomesh dwelled on the importance of acquiring teaching skills and use of teaching aids while imparting the knowledge. He emphasised on necessity of preparing lesson plan to achieve definite goals and objectives from the lesson.  

The orientation programme was attended by 42 participants, including administrative staff. The teaching staff resolved to faithfully prepare lesson plan of every lesson before they teach the students in the class room, a press release received here said.
