Kohima DC urges teachers to embrace evolving methodologies

Exceptional educators from Kohima honored at district level teachers' award ceremony

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant today advised teachers to stay acquainted and updated to the present scenario in the backdrop of a fast changing world. 

He was speaking at the District Level Teachers' Award Ceremony organized by District Education Office at Razhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima today. 

The DC said even though the basic teaching pattern may remain same, teaching methodology is changing and evolving to suit present society. 

In this regard, he said teachers need to invest in themselves to learn and relearn so that they can impart students the level of education which may turn them to a responsible human. 

Speaking of the role teachers’ play in the society, the DC described the teachers as catalysts of the future generation who not only teach academic but impart life skills at the same time. 

The DC also advised teachers not to differentiate students in the school as children come from different background and have different thought process. He asked them to provide equal treatment as per the calibre and capacity of the students. 

The DC said as a person starts schooling, one is not aware of one's potential or what we can achieve in life and said that teacher's guide the person to what they become. He described teaching as a selfless service and teachers built the path for the welfare of the students regardless of any subject they teach.

Although many of their contributions go unnoticed, he said such a programme to honour the teachers goes not only to the awardees but all teachers in general and called teachers to renew approach towards their profession. 

Adding that teachers act as catalyst in the lives of students, the DC said what they teach them today will enable students to shoulder the responsibility of the coming generation. 

"Our next generation is going to perform depending on how the seed is planted as the achievement of a person is limitless" he stated while advising the teachers to guide the young minds on the right path. 

Director of Department of School Education (DoSE), Wonthungo Tsopoe remarked that in Kohima district, both government and private teachers are excelling in their teaching profession. The Director asked the teachers to keep up the good work so that even other districts will emulate their role. 

A speech on behalf of the teacher awardees was delivered by Kezhalezo Solo, GHS, PWD while a word of encouragement was delivered by Zhopota Rhakho, Advisor, ANPSA. 

The four teachers who received the Kohima District Teachers award were Zhazolie Metha, GHS Botsa; Kezhalezo Solo, GHS, PWD; Albert Tungoe, GHS Forest Colony and Katia Lohrü, Assistant Teacher at Alderville Hr. Secondary School, Jotsoma.

On the occasion, Best Performing School Heads sponsored by DEO, Kohima, Sr. SDEO Kohima and SDEO, Chiephobozou was awarded to 7 individuals including Neingukholie Vielie Teacher-in-Charge, GPS Peducha; Supenmo Mozhui, Head Teacher, GMS Phezoucha; Kekhriengulie Khezhie, Teacher-in-Charge, GPS Tekhuba; Khrietseinuo Yano, Head Teacher, GMS Ziezou; Rose Chishi, Vice Principal, Dr. N Kire GHSS, Seikhazou; Rukuvito Kikhi, Asst Headmaster, GHS Sakhabama and Rev Fr Charles D'souza SJ, Principal, St Paul's Institute, Phesama.
