Kohima District Task Force holds meeting on plastic ban 

Kohima, September 16 (MExN): The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) on restricting use of plastics held its meeting in the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner Kohima on September 16. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kohima who is also the Chairman of DTF, Gregory Thejawelie.



The meeting was held to work out the strategies and also review the action plan undertaken for the implementation of the exercise at district headquarter and Sub-Divisional levels. The district administration officers shared their programme on awareness of plastic free environment to be conducted in their respective jurisdiction, which includes villages, churches, colleges and schools within this month prior to the enforcement of plastic ban by the State Government from October 1.


The meeting had a lengthy discussion on the items to be banned initially and decided to concentrate on the items causing maximum pollution in the present scenario, which includes all plastic carry bags with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size; all plastic cutleries including plates, cups, straw, stirrers etc. and all cutleries and other decorative items made of Styrofoam (Thermocol).


The meeting also discussed on the modalities on how to be vigilant and monitor the use of single use plastic in the district.
