Kohima Football League from May 17

  Our Correspondent Kohima | April 21 The 2nd Kohima Football League (KFL) 2018 under the aegis of Kohima Town Club (KTC) will take place from May 17 to June 20 (tentative) here. The organisers made the announcement today at a programme which was attended by Kovi Meyase, Joint Secretary, Land Resources Department as patron. Eight teams - Ziekezou Sporting Club, New Market FC, United 16 FC, Khriekesa FC, Nagabazar FC, Vanguard FC, Sechii Zubza FC and Twenty XI FC – will compete in the tournament.   Meyase in his address emphasized the importance of sports as an industry and stressed on the need to follow certain fundamentals to develop sports in the state. Lauding the KTC’s effort to promote local players, Mesaye encouraged the players to grab the opportunity.   The KTC was formed in December 2016 with its motto ‘For the Community, for the Game’. KTC president Dr. Viketuolie Pienyii said that it was initiated mostly by former sports personalities, including ex- footballers and other professionals. According to him, the KTC has initiated KFL to develop grassroots football, to produce professional footballers and to advance the standard of football, while targeting budding talents to pick football as a career. He also said that the KTC would also pressure the government to do something for promoting football in Nagaland. The KTC is also targeting to increase the KFL fan base from 1000 in the first edition to 1500 this time.   Ziekezou Sporting Club won the first KFL in 2017. New Market FC was the runners-up.
