Kohima, September 13 (MExN): The District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) convened a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Kohima to assess the progress of water tap connectivity and sanitation efforts across the district. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chairman of DWSM Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS.

During the meeting, various departments provided updates on their activities. The Rural Development Department discussed the status of sanitation and water tap connectivity in the district, while the Water Resources Department highlighted ongoing water harvesting projects and data collection efforts. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between departments to streamline water supply connectivity projects.

A key point of discussion was the provision of water tap connectivity at Anganwadi Centres, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and government schools, along with the challenges faced and steps being taken to address them.

DC Ramnikant stressed the importance of setting monthly targets to expedite progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), urging departments to collaborate by sharing data, verifying records, and rectifying discrepancies. He emphasized the goal of ensuring 100% water tap connectivity for every household in Kohima district.

The Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) provided an update on the implementation of JJM in Kohima and Tseminyu districts, noting that 71 out of the 76 villages in Kohima are under the PHED’s jurisdiction, with the remaining five overseen by the Rural Development Department. The mission aims to achieve full water tap connectivity in rural households by December 2024.
