Kohima to adopt Odd-Even system from June 22

Kohima, June 19 (MExN): In the interest of public safety and to minimize non-essential movement of vehicles, Odd-Even system will be implemented for movement of vehicles under section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988.


Odd: On odd dated day, only vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will be allowed to ply.


Even: On even dated day only vehicle with registration number ending with even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will be allowed to ply.


An order from Kevithutho Sophie, NPS, Sr. Superintendent of Police, Kohima stated that this order will be implemented from June 22 to 30 except on June 28 (Sunday) and will apply to all areas within Kohima municipality.

 

This prohibition and restriction of movement of vehicles will, however, not apply to following categories:
•    Emergency service vehicles belonging to Police, Prison, Administration, Para Military, Medical, NST buses, Government staff buses, Fire Services, NSDMA & SDRF
•    Press and two-wheelers
•    Trucks carrying emergency Medical equipments/commodities and LPG cylinders
•    Inter-State trucks carrying essential commodities bound for the state of Manipur
•    All vehicles restricted to ply by virtue of Government notifications shall remain enforced (eg. Inter-district zonal Taxis, city bus etc)

 

“Violation of this restriction order will be liable to be penalised under section 177 & 179 of the MV Act 1988. Employees of Government Department are requested to take the staff bus instead of private vehicle during this period to help minimize traffic congestion. Citizens are requested to abide by the restriction order and cooperate with the police on duty,” the order added.
