Mon, November 29 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) has expressed concern over the abduction of one Md. Muslek Ali, who was forcibly taken from his shop on November 25, by gunmen allegedly linked to the NSCN-K (Aung Mai) faction.
In a press statement, the KU condemned the incident, stating it threatens the longstanding peace and harmony shared between the Konyak and Assamese communities. Over the past decade, these communities have coexisted peacefully, fostering a relationship built on mutual respect and understanding. The KU emphasized that no group or individual should disrupt this hard-earned harmony.
The KU called for the resolution of disputes through lawful means, rather than through acts of abduction or kidnapping, which only escalate tensions and mistrust. The union also highlighted the potential repercussions of such actions during the festive season, noting the adverse effects on daily activities, business exchanges, and the movement of students and travelers, which could impact the welfare of both communities.
Demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Md. Muslek Ali within 24 hours, the KU warned that failure to comply would force them to declare public non-cooperation with the NSCN-K (Aung Mai) group.
The KU urged all stakeholders and leaders to demonstrate resilience and work collectively to uphold peace and harmony for the benefit of all.
