Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): The Kipi Qomi Welfare Society (KQWS) under the sponsorship of Union Ministry of Culture conducted a three-day long seminar and awareness on arts and culture of Sumi community from June 18 to 20 in Dimapur and Kohima.
KQWS, Chairman, Kughaho Khala in a press release stated that the first two day was held in Dimapur while on the concluding on June 20, 2020 was held near Don Bosco HSS Kohima with Piholi sharing on the importance of two major festivals of Sumi tribe, that is, Tuluni and Ahuna.
Tuluni is a festival of great significance for the Sumi, she said, adding that this festival is marked with feasts as the occasion occurs in the bountiful season of the year. Tuluni is also called "Anni" the word of which denotes the season of plentiful crops, she said. This midyear festival is a time of communal harmony and merry-making for the Sumi community. Slaughtering of pigs, cows and mithun is an important feature of this festival, she added.
She said Ahuna (November 14) is a traditional post-harvest festival of the Sumis. Ahuna signifies the celebration of the season's harvest in Thanksgiving, while invoking the spirit of good fortune in the New Year, she said.
The programme participated by around 20 women was organised by Hosheli while invocation was pronounced by Merry V and special number was presented by women group.
