The Ministry of Agriculture and farmers’ welfare in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022 has launched the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan from June 1 till July 31, 2018 so as to aid, assist and advice farmers on how to improve their farming techniques and raise their incomes.

The Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan will be undertaken in 25 Villages with more than 1000 population each in Aspirational Districts identified in consultation with Ministry of Rural Development as per directions of NITI Ayog. In districts where number of villages (with more than 1000 population) is less than 25, all villages will be covered.

The department of Agriculture in Kiphire launched Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan with the 25 selected villages at the conference hall, DPDB with Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Ali Shihab IAS as keynote speaker on June 8. It was attended by officials from Agriculture and Allied departments.

Addressing the gathering, the DC also strictly warned the village council chairmen and leaders on corruption stating, “Your life is under scanner and when time permits, I will expose all the wrong doing of the village leaders.” He also went on to say that he will derecognize the villages, if found involved in corruption and added that he know exactly how money is being misused in the villages and appeal to the gathering to eat the fruit and not the seed.

Stressing more on misuse of development, the DC pointed out that in Nagaland there are many roads, programmes and projects on paper which are perfect and beautiful figure but hardly few are visible on the ground.

The DC also mentioned earlier that agriculture is the only source for sustainable income for many Nagas and if it is not taken care of, we will not have future. Therefore, the villagers must make the best use of the land which is the most valuable resource. The DC also encouraged the farmers to be the best in the state, as government will soon declare Nagaland an organic state in the country.
