KSO accuses Manipur CM of mislabeling Myanmar refugee

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has criticized Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for allegedly attempting to deflect attention from the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state. A press release from the KSO accused Singh of making baseless claims about foreign involvement in the conflict, including recent allegations implicating the USA and China.

The KSO specifically addressed the arrest of Thangliankap, a Myanmar national who was detained in Manipur under accusations of being a member of the Kuki National Army, Burma (KNA-B). According to the KSO, Thangliankap entered India legally, following proper procedures and registering with authorities as a refugee due to the unstable political situation in Myanmar.

The KSO denounced what it described as a misuse of the current political unrest to unjustly label Thangliankap as a KNA-B member involved in arms trafficking. The organization called on the Government of India to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations against Thangliankap.
