Dimapur, April 13 (MExN): The Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of KVK Dimapur was organized at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Jharnapani on April 12 under the Chairmanship of Director ICAR, Umiam Barapani, Dr. SV Ngachan.
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Ebibeni Vadeo. (SMS Animal Science) followed by action taken report by Z. James. Kikon (SMS Soil Sc) based on the recommendation of the last SAC meeting.
The progress report was presented by Programme Coordinator KVK Dimapur Dr. Anamika Sharma. The Action Plan for the Year 2016-2017 was presented by Dr. Kolom Rabi (SMS Plant Breeding).
The chairman in his remark commented that area, production of ramie plant should be increased for sustainable income as fiber can be extracted easily and leaves can be used as fodder for cattle. He advised KVK Dimapur to increase the area, production and productivity of pulses in the District for Nutritional security as pulses prove to be a cheap source of protein.
Director NRC- Mithun, Dr. Abhijit Mitra advocated that vaccination camps for FMD and HS can be organized jointly in collaboration with NRC- Mithun. Even other demonstrations where animal component is involved can be jointly organized by the two Institutes. Drum stick which is a very rich source of iron can be planted in Hillocks which can be utilized as fodder and for human consumption.
Deputy General Manager, NABARD Tiakala Ao suggested that seed which is a very vital input for cultivation can be produced in participatory mode by involvement of NGOs, NABARD and ICAR.
District Fishery Officer, Vimezo Kire suggested that fishery production in the District can be increased by Joint efforts of KVK Dimapur and the District Fishery Office
District Horticulture officer, Jerry Patton advised that rain water harvested should be utilized properly for high value vegetables especially of season cultivation under protected structures.
The District Veterinary Officer suggested that cattle can be upgraded through artificial insemination from frozen semen of exotic breeds with the help of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department Dimapur, Government of Nagaland.
Sub Divisional officer, Department of Agriculture suggested that sun scorching in pineapple can be reduced by inter cropping with Taincha Sisbenia SPP which will also improve the soil fertility while fixing the atmospheric Nitrogen.
Altogether 33 members from various organizations, Agri and Allied Departments of Dimapur District participated in the meeting. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by HD Singh, SMS Horticulture.
