KVK Wokha, DAO to collaborate for quality seed production

Wokha, April 8 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha convened a meeting with the District Agriculture Officer and his staff on April 7 at the office of the DAO.

The meeting was initiated and chaired by Bendangla Imsong, ACTO (Plant Breeding). In her address, she highlighted the importance and the role of improved seed varieties and how the departments can collaborate with one another for effective system of production and marketing of the seed in the district.

District Agriculture Officer, Wokha Santsu Kithan spoke about various promising crops in the district which can be focused upon for quality seed production. He also assured support and collaboration for programmes that will directly benefit the farming community.

Mhathung, SDAO Wokha discussed about the pros and cons involved in the seed production.

It was decided in the meeting that quality seed production of soybean and toria will be taken up. Mungya, Tsungiki and N Longidang villages were selected for soybean seed production, and for toria seed production, Liphi and Rechan villages were selected.

These villages will be informed of the programme by the area in-charges and training programme and meeting with the farmers to apprise of the quality seed production programme will be taken up within days, the KVK Wokha informed in its press release.

Megokhono Meyase, ACTO (Horticulture), Dr BL Mhalo Tungoe, ACTO (Agricultural Extension), Agriculture Officers and Agriculture Inspectors also shared their inputs and suggestions on how the quality seed production programme be taken up effectively.
