Lakhs of Amur Falcons arrive in Ntu village

Peren, November 19 (MExN): Lakhs of Amur Falcons have once again arrived in Ntu village of Peren district this year, according to a press release from Caroline K. Angami, IFS, Wildlife Warden, Wildlife Division, Dimapur.  

Ntu perched on the hill with its valley known as Barak receives thousands of the State guest bird, Amur Falcon every year. In 2015, large numbers in lakhs visited the valley; however, in 2016 it was comparatively less. This year, the birds have returned in lakhs.  

“At this time of every year, the villagers get overwhelmed having the guest birds. Although the villagers are cooperative in protection and conserving wildlife and Amur Falcon, the most essential factor in any activity is the awareness campaign,” stated the press release.  

Keeping this in mind, an awareness campaign was organised at Ntu village, which was attended by village council members, village elders, village leaders, school teachers and students.  

Helen Kaurinta, Head Teacher in her welcome address stated that the stakeholders have been cooperating with the Forest department in conservation and protection of flora and fauna and will continue to do so in the noble cause.  

Chairperson of Ntu Village Council, Azanbo Kaurinta in his speech requested the department to upgrade the Purchased Reserved Forest land to a Wildlife Sanctuary.  

SP Tripathi, IFS, PCCF & Chief Wildlife Warden Nagaland appreciated the efforts of the villagers in protection and conservation field. He appealed to the people to continue with the noble acts and advised them to submit the proposal through proper channel for which he assured his best possible assistance to them.  

A song was presented by NCS students at the programme, which was chaired by Caroline K. Angami, Wildlife Warden, Dimapur.
