Leprosy Case Detection Campaign launched in Dimapur

Dimapur, September 16 (MExN): Dimapur District launched the Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) at the Chief Medical Officer’s Office on September 16. Dimapur District has been conducting trainings for Medical Officers, ANMs and ASHAs in all the Blocks in preparedness of this intensive Campaign. The campaign will culminate on September 22, stated a press release issued by Dr. Heto Swu, Zonal Leprosy Officer, Dimapur.
Dr. PJ Gogoi, Sr. Regional Director, Ministry of Regional Office for Health & Family Welfare, Government of India who is in the State as Central Observer stated that house-to-house survey is very crucial in this campaign to identify new cases as many infected patients do not seek medical treatment due to the stigma and prejudice attached to this diseases. This intensive campaign will be help in identifying those hidden cases and provide medical treatment. He further stated that he will be visiting health units to assess and provide necessary assistance to them in the coming weeks. He also urged the field workers to involve vigorously in this campaign and help to eliminate this disease from the State again.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Heto Swu, ZLO Dimapur who also briefly re-oriented the participants on the LCD campaign. While Dr. Ahu Sekhose, State Leprosy Officer, Nagaland also informed the participants on the previous similar Campaign held in 2016 where more than 125 suspected cases were identified, of which 4 cases were positive. He attributed the success of the previous campaign to the contribution and hard work of the field workers.
Dr. Gogoi also inaugurated the LCDC Control Room and the Campaign was officially flagged off by DrK Vikato Kinimi, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur during the inaugural programme.
Dr. Gogoi as Central Observer, visited Medziphema CHC and Socunoma SC after the inaugural along with State leprosy Officer, Zonal Leprosy Officer, Consultant NLEP and other Paramedical workers.
