Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): Lima Aier Higher Secondary School emerged as champion of the Inter-School Math Quiz 2026 organised by the All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), Dimapur Unit, at Little Star Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, on October 3.

Sagarika Roy and Imnasenla Ozukum of Lima Aier Higher Secondary School won a cash prize of Rs 30,000, along with a trophy and certificates. Densati Jamir and Tiati Jamir of Little Star Higher Secondary School secured the runner-up position, receiving Rs 20,000, a trophy and certificates.

The competition brought together 44 Class 9 students from 22 schools across Dimapur. The preliminary round saw all 22 schools compete, with 16 teams qualifying for the subsequent rounds before the final round determined the winners.

Teisovi Gerard Meyase, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Controller of Examinations at Kohima Science College, attended the event as guest of honour. He encouraged students to develop curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, noting that understanding the reasoning behind answers remained essential even as artificial intelligence (AI) provided answers. "Not knowing the answer is not the failure; not trying is the failure," he told the students, while highlighting the importance of mathematics in everyday life.

St Paul Higher Secondary School and Footprints Academy received consolation prizes of Rs 4,000 each, along with certificates. The four other finalists, Grace Academy, Lampstand Higher Secondary School, Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School and Little Buds School, received Rs 2,000 each and certificates.

The quiz masters were Luyin Aier of Class 10, Little Star Higher Secondary School, and Naitik Thakur of Class 11, Lima Aier Higher Secondary School. Hentong T Konyak and Taochila Longkumer of Class 10, Little Star Higher Secondary School, compered the programme.

Aboriginal Energy, Nagaland Doors and Oxford University Press sponsored the prize money. The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and a vote of thanks.
