Lok Sabha election: DC Kohima issues order for licensed arms holders

Kohima, March 17 (MExN): In preparation for the forthcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant, District Magistrate of Kohima, Nagaland, has issued an order in accordance with the Election Commission of India's guidelines.

The order mandates all licensed arm holders in Kohima district to deposit their arms and ammunitions at the nearest police stations by March 30. The deposited arms and ammunitions will be kept in police custody until one week after the declaration of election results. Each depositor will receive a receipt from the officer in charge of the respective police stations, who will also maintain proper records and ensure the safe custody of the arms, a DIPR report mentioned.

It further stated that non-compliance with this directive will result in the cancellation of arms licenses and may incur penal action as per relevant sections of the law.

DC further announced the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The Code of Conduct, effective immediately, applies throughout Kohima district until the election process is complete. All political parties, prospective candidates, government departments/establishments, and the general public have been urged to adhere strictly to the guidelines and extend cooperation to the district election machinery for the peaceful conduct of the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024.
Peren & Wokha district administration informs on enforcement of election MCC  

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan has informed that with reference to the Chief Electoral Officer directive with the announcement of General Election to the Lok Sabha, “All Flying Squad Teams are hereby activated with direction to execute the following immediate action.”All wall writings, wall/poster, banners, flags, defacement on Government property is to be removed within 24 hours from the announcement of election. All unauthorised political advertisement in any form of wall writings/ posters/papers or defacement in any other form, cut-outs/hoardings, banners. Flags shall be removed from public property and public space within 48 hours from the announcement of election. Further, all unauthorised political advertisements in any form shall be removed from private property within 72 hours from the announcement of election.

Meanwhile, the DC of Peren Vineet Kumar has stated all political parties, contesting candidates are required to strictly adhere to the MCC. Any Violation will be dealt with according to the relevant laws and regulations, prohibition of political Activities, including rallies, public meeting, and procession, must adhere to the guidelines outline in the MCC. Any political gathering must obtain necessary permission from the appropriate authorities. Use of Government Resources, strictly prohibit the use of government machinery, resources and facilities for campaigning or any other political purpose by any political party or candidate. This includes vehicles, premises, personnel, and any other Government assets. Maintaining law and order throughout the district to ensure a peaceful electoral process. Any incidents of violence, intimidation, or coercion must be dealt with promptly and impartially by the law enforcement agencies.
