Longleng orgs reaffirm stand on Prohibition

Dimapur, July 20 (MExN): Civil society of Longleng district met on July 13 to discuss the Prohibition and has decided to stand on the implementation of the Prohibition Act. The organizations included Phom Baptist Christian Association, Phom People’s Council, Phom Student’s Conference, Phomla Hoichem (Phom Women’s Organization), Association of Phom Graduates and Officers and other local leaders.

The meeting stated that Longleng district will continue to reiterate the Act passed by the Government of Nagaland in 1987 and “reaffirm its stand”. The meeting decided to “disseminate the Act in every corner of Longleng district and impose strict and severe implementation” and even “organize surprise raid of any form of substances in and around its district.”

All “VVIPs and VIP (vehicles with name plates)” are requested to cooperate in the move to implement the Act. “The mission approach of the church will have a new paradigm: one of the church’s home mission will be imparting Christian values and Biblical teachings to the people to abstain from any form of substance abuses and cooperate in its strive for string implementation of the total Liquor Prohibition Act in Longleng district,” a copy of the resolutions state today.  

The organizations also appealed to both the state government of Nagaland and the Nagaland Baptist Church Council to reaffirm commitment to implement the total Liquor Prohibition Act, strongly and strictly in and around Longleng district. The resolutions explained further: “Lifting of the Act passed will be returning to one’s own Vomit. Therefore, appeal the state government for strict implementation of the Liquor Prohibition Act and take coercive active against the defaulters; appeal the NBCC and the church to reorient its strategy by imparting Christian teachings and values and edify the people to abstain from any form of substance abuse and uses; appeal the NBCC to stand and work for the common cost of the people of Nagaland.”
