Imphal, August 24 (NNN): In the last five months of COVID-19 induced lockdown, Manipur police has collected Rs 90,02,550 as fine in its drive against lockdown and curfew violators.
The COVID-19 induced lockdown in Manipur commenced on March 24, the day the Modi government at the Centre declared the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of the pandemic in the country.
While declaring the lockdown in the state too by the Biren government, district magistrates of each district promulgated curfew under sub-section 2 of section 144 of CrPF, prohibiting people from moving out of their respective houses.
To have the meaning of the lockdown, police have been conducting drives against curfew violators from the very beginning.
On Monday (August 24), the lockdown has completed almost five months and during this period, the state police has collected Rs 90,02,550 as fine during its drive against the violators, an official data of the state Police department said.
The fine was collected from 75,133 persons who were penalised for violating the lockdown/curfew. The police further detained 51,833 vehicles during the same period.
Meanwhile, on Monday itself, an amount of Rs 35,900 was collected as fine by the police across the state. The fine was collected from 171 persons who violated the SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) of the lockdown.
