Manipur Trinamool urges all-party meet to discuss ‘Framework agreement’

Newmai News Network Imphal | October 21   The Manipur Unit of Trinamool Congress has demanded Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh to convene an all-party meeting at the earliest to discuss the political development out of which "the NSCN (IM) has high hope to resolve the protracted Naga political problem".   At an event Kim Gangte, president of Trinamool Congress, Manipur unit attacked the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP for allegedly refusing to show seriousness upon the "Framework Agreement" signed between the NSCN-IM and the Government of India last year.   One of the key demands of the Naga outfit in the expected peace deal is to integrate all contiguous Naga areas which include parts of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. "The Congress and BJP are rather putting efforts in campaigning forgetting the Framework Agreement that has the potential to disrupt the integrity of Manipur," Kim Gangte said.   She was concerned that the details of the agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015 were still keeping in secret by the Centre   Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has refurbished the party organisation and got prepared for the ensuing state assembly polls to be held early next year.   Names of 15 executive members including All India Trinamool Congress Manipur state unit's president Kim Gangte were announced during a press meet at the party office, Sanjenthong. AITC Chief took up the step ahead of the state assembly polls.   All four MLAs of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress, including its president Thounaojam Shyamkumar, joined INC last month. On May 28 last year, three MLAs of Manipur Trinamool Congress were disqualified by the Speaker under the Anti-Defection Law in the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. "Names of party candidates for the upcoming state assembly polls will be announced soon," said party president Kim Gangte, a former MP.   Kim is the first woman from Manipur to become an MP. She is also a social worker and rights activist besides being a politician. She was elected from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in 1998 as a candidate of Communist Party of India.
